Hello. EABOF, as all of you know is my blog posts where I review stuff. I want to talk about two games in particular, because those are the ones I got from being a PS Plus member this month. This is a very special month because this is the first since Sony's increase in the price of the annual membership. As such, I want to justify the new pricing to myself by reviewing two games a month, both for the different systems. That out of the way, let's get this started:

PS4 review:

The games available for October on PS4 were Transformers devastation, and Resident evil the remake. I opted for the former. I don't like Resident evil, okay? That's all. survival horror sucks in my humble opinion. So I went with the franchise I like, by the company I like, in a style I like, Transformers Devastation.

1. Graphics/syle:

The Graphics are pretty good. Nothing to write home about on PS4. The PS4 is good, so are these graphics, cool? cool.

The Style is a lot more interesting. It has a semi-cell shaded style, and it all has the aestetic of G1 Transformers. For those not well versed in this highly technical fandom and all it's complex terms so far beyond typical human comprehension, that means the original 1984 cartoon. The style is done very well, the models look show accurate, things look vibrant and colorful, All that good  tuff. It looks good on it's own and it looks good as a recreation of the G1 cartoon. A+ on how things look... How do they play?

2. Gameplay:

The game plays like water. Smooth. It's a very DMC sort of Combo system combat.  to light attack, △ for heavy, X is jump, o is the interact button. Typical stuff. Through out your adventure, you'll be throwing cars at Generic Decepticons, you fight Devastator and his individual parts along the way, along with many famous Decepticons. This game is also hard as balls. if you don't know how to dodge properly, this game will take Movie Devastator and shove him all the way up your ass. I'm stuck on a devastator fight and don't know if I can go back, there was a mid fight check point and I'm afraid to lose it, I ain't dropping the difficulty either. Point is, that's how hard this sucker kicks your ass.

There are finer "Ultimate abilities" that do a ton of damage, and smaller specials that vary from bot to bot. There are at least 3 you can play as. Optimus, Sideswipe, and Bumblebee, the other two in the story are Wheeljack and Grimlock, I've seen people play as them but I legitimately can't beat Devastator's second fight so I don't know how they play.

3. Story:

The story is that a swarm of insecticons (Decepticons with bug alt modes) are attacking an unnamed city. These are basically just a hive mind and not the ones from the original show and then some. Meanwhile, Plasma energy has been detected in the city, something Starscream says hasn't been able to be used since "the golden age." When combing through some of the game's data logs, I learned that was a time when Cybertron was at it's peak. The technology was more advanced, no wars, that kinda stuff. Good times for all, specially with the plasma energy, more powerful then Energon so machines running on it lasted WAY longer. Turns out there's a ship thing under the city and some sort of tower coming from it, this is what activated the Insecticon swarm. Turns out it's a ship used by the ancient Cybertronian Nova prime. Not spoiling anymore. But it's basically if the original Cartoon went a little more ape shit with it's plots. I learned this from a video of the cut scenes.

4. Summary/Verdict:

This game is worth a play. if you have PS+ or a fondness for Transformers, DMC/Platinum gameplay, this is for you.

Verdict: Autobots, Roll out.

PS3 Review:

For the PS3, my choices were some ATV nonsense, and From Dust, a game I remember fiddling with the demo of. I had fun. Soooooo...

1. Graphics/Style:

This is officially a last gen game, but for ps3 game, the graphics are pretty slick. Water flows realistically, eroding rocks and sand over time, The sand moves believably, And watching the lava you lay down cool into stone is oddly therapeutic. But the humans in the game, the animals, the plants, and the fire, all of them look janky. The fire looks really bad. Like it's basically just bright orange haze. There's only one animal you can see and it's like a giant horseshoe crab thing.

The game isn't after a particular style as best I can tell. Sorta realism I'd bet. As you know, if your game is "Realistic" It will date worse then a game with it's own proper style.

2. Gameplay:

This game is basically half god game, half puzzle game. I say that because you tell the tribe you're in command of to go to certain places. Namely, Totems, where they found villages, Stones, that help them learn about their history and stories of the tribe. and these magic doorways that open the next area for you to assign them to Totems and stuff. Something of note about the Totems is that they also grant powers when your people have villages at them. For example, you can evaporate the water of the land for a bit, Jellify it (Meaning that when you pick it up and set it down, it's like a spire of water or it stays right where it is if you drag along the ground, this helps grow palm trees if you're having trouble there), or, hell, you can make a black hole thing.

The goal is that you cover every map in as many palm trees as possible, this unlocks the tribe's memories, like stories and such. Unlocking them all gives you some interesting stories. Getting to that point can be a pain in the ass though. This is because your tribe's people can die quickly if you don't get them the protection they need. like water trees near the fire trees, building a slop-stop on a volcano to divert lava flow, that kinda stuff. Some stones in the area defend against natural disasters like Tsunamis.

3. Story:

You play as "The voice" a snake-like god creature worshiped by the aforementioned Tribe. Said tribe has lost their history. Their stories. They have summoned/created a new "voice" to guide them and help them through this difficult time so they can regain their stories and tame the savage lands they live in.

That's about it. Very small game, very slim story.

4. Summary/Verdict:

Genuinely worth a play if you want something that challenges your mind and gives you some interesting things to read. Very worth the asking price if you have the patience needed to deal with the fires and stuff.

Verdict: And I said "Let there be scoop ups."

In short, I recommend both the games I got. Join me next time when I talk about a more appropriate game for this time of year.
